Mick Bohan has resigned as coach of the Clare Senior Footballers.

Bohan was a skills coach with Jim Gavin to the All-Ireland winning Dublin senior footballers in 2013 and the U21’s in 2010. The nephew of Sixmilebridge Parish Priest and former Clare hurling manager Fr Harry Bohan has cited family reasons as the main factor behind his decision to step down

Clontarf based PE teacher Mick replaced Ephie Fitzgerald as the main coach of the Clare senior footballers managed by Colm Collins at the end of the 2015 season. His involvement with the Banner County saw Clare secure promotion to Division 2 of the Allianz National Football League by winning the Division 3 title. He was a driving force behind Clare’s first appearance in the All-Ireland SFC quarter-finals.

Alan Flynn the 2013 All-Ireland winning manager of the Galway U21 footballers is to succeed Mick Bohan. Flynn has previously been selector with the Tribesmen’s senior side and has been in charge of Sigerson teams with GMIT. Alan was previously in contention for the role of Cavan manager.

A statement from Clare GAA thanked Mick Bohan for his contribution and revealed that he will stay involved with the County’s underage development programme. “We would like to sincerely thank Mick for his great contribution in 2016. Mick will continue in his role with the underage development programme in Clare”.
