This year’s sales of the Clare GAA Yearbook will determine whether future publications go ahead or not.
In his annual report to club delegates at the Clare GAA Convention in The Auburn Lodge on Wednesday, Public Relations Officer Sean O’Halloran described the functions that exist for someone in his role.
O’Halloran has led the return of the county yearbook which was not published in 2015. “The yearbook is returning to the shelves after much deliberation. This will be a defining year for this production as sales of same have drastically declined in recent years”.
Similarly there has been a reduction in the amount of match programmes sold O’Halloran has noticed. “It has become increasingly noticeable that in recent years the sale of programmes has declined. This can be partially attributed to the collapse of the Celtic Tiger and the emergence of all kinds of social media particularly Twitter and Facebook”.
He referenced a positive online review which featured on Tuairsic.ie where John Allen paid tribute to the county final programme produced for the clash of Ballyea and Clonlara this year.
Social media can be positively used by the GAA according to the Bodyke man. “If it is utilised in a controlled, constructive and positive manner social media can be of enormous benefit to the GAA going forward”.
Sean is now entering his third year in the position of PRO having been the only nominated candidate at the convention.
