Wednesday’s scheduled clash between Clare and Cork in the Munster Senior Hurling League will go ahead as planned.
With thirteen of their panel unavailable due to the Fitzgibbon Cup commencing on Tuesday, the Clare management expressed their desire to see the fixture pushed back until Friday. However Munster GAA have rejected the appeal and the game will throw-in at 7:30pm in O’Garney Park, Sixmilebridge.
Speaking on Sunday, Joint Manager Donal Moloney answered “maybe” to the possibility of Clare giving a walkover if the game went ahead midweek. They need a win against Cork to qualify for the final of the pre-season tournament with Cork already through to the decider.
“We’re not doing it, maybe we’ll be forced into it but that’s where we’re immediately at right now. We cannot ask some players to play five games in 10 days. The Fitzgibbon is on Tuesday and we have 13 Fitzgibbon players, and if the fixture isn’t changed, we’ll have to fight it. We’re not going to torture our players”, Moloney said.
It is expected that Clare will fulfil the fixture in what will be their fourth competitive game in ten days.
