Ennis Hockey Club has etched its name into the annals of history with a remarkable achievement – for the first time in the club’s history, they will be gracing the Munster U16 Cup final stage.

The journey to this monumental moment reached its climax on Saturday, in Limerick, where Ennis Hockey Club faced off against Cork C of I Hockey Club in the Munster U16 semi-final.

A club spokesperson said: “It was a spectacle to behold as two evenly matched teams clashed on the field, epitomising the true spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie. Despite the absence of a dedicated hockey pitch in Clare, forcing all home matches to be played in Limerick, our players have shown remarkable adaptability, training tirelessly to excel even in less than ideal conditions.

Ennis Hockey Club emerged triumphant with scores in both the first and second quarters. Although the remainder of the match was fiercely contested, our players exhibited resilience and determination, securing their place in the final rounds of the tournament. Goals were scored from short corners, a testament to the team’s cohesion and dedication to training drills.”

“As we look forward to the final on the 17th of March, there’s optimism tinged with a hint of concern. While our victory in the semi-final was sweet, we missed the contributions of a few players. It’s our hope that all our players will be available for the final, ensuring we field our strongest lineup to seize this historic opportunity.

It’s worth noting the challenges our club faces due to the absence of a suitable hockey pitch in Clare. Training on a small basketball-sized pitch certainly presents obstacles in terms of surface and size. Yet, our players have defied the odds, showcasing their adaptability and skill. A proper hockey pitch is a necessity, not just for Ennis Hockey Club, but for the talented individuals in Clare who aspire to follow a similar path.”

“Ennis Hockey Club’s journey to the Munster U16 final is not just about winning matches; it’s a testament to the dedication, resilience, and passion of our players and supporters. As we gear up for the final showdown, we carry with us the hopes and dreams of our club and our community. Let’s make history together on the 17th of March,” the club spokesperson added.
