Marie wins 4  medals at Transplant Sports Championships

Marie O Connor from Lahinch Co Clare was part Transplant Sport Ireland who brought home a staggering 65 medals from the European championships held in Lisbon recently.

It was an amazing week for Team Ireland team Ireland who competed in a number of disciplines including golf swimming cycling tenpin bowling and athletics to name just a few.

Marie was competing at the start of the week in the Darts where she won Silver in the Darts singles followed by Bronze in the darts triples.

But that wasn’t enough for the Clare woman and she went on to win Gold in the Golf singles despite  challenging conditions and searing  heat midweek.

Still not finished with her medal haul, Marie, along with partner Amanda O Neill Coyne from Youghal,  won Gold in the Pétanque doubles bringing her haul of medals to impressive four.

Marie is well used to winning medals at these sporting championships but considers her real Gold win was the day she got her transplant. She takes part in transplant sport to honour her donor and promote organ donation and what a way to do it!

It is not all about medals for Transplant sport Ireland instead each athlete is honouring their donor and celebrating life through sport. Their endeavours  show powerfully that organ donation works and the team urge everyone to Have the conversation and say Yes to Organ Donation.
