Kevin Moran is putting the final touches on his preparations for what will be his tenth Championship season with Waterford, for him Sunday is about righting the wrongs from the Allianz National Hurling League.
Speaking ahead of the Munster Senior Hurling Championship semi-final which takes place in Semple Stadium, Moran put a big emphasis on his view that the Déise were unfortunate in how they lost out to Clare in the National Hurling League decider.
“We were happy with the league, we had some good performances, other performances we weren’t so happy with. Obviously beaten in the replay by a very good Clare team so we were quiet pleased with our league campaign, unfortunate not to get a bit of silverware at the end but plenty to work on”.
Win at the weekend and a place in the provincial decider is guaranteed. The prospect of collecting a third Munster medal unsurprisingly excites the De La Salle man. “The team is developing constantly and look you want to be getting silverware, we were unfortunate not to get silverware in the league final this year and we’d absolutely love to win a Munster medal”.
Both teams are well versed on the other and Moran believes previous outings won’t matter once James Owens throws in the sliotar. “Both sets of managements and players will be looking at where they can improve on and work on. It’ll be a totally different game, every game has a life of its own the fifth of June will be no different. I suppose we’re after playing them twice already and this is the third part of it, there is going to be a sense of familiarity with both setups, they’re big games that you want to be playing in and may the best team come out on top and it’s a huge prize for them”.
What can the Clare faithful expect from Waterford on Sunday? The 2012 All-Star explains what his side plan to bring to the table. “You’ll see huge honesty and workrate obviously and after that it’s all about your hurling and taking chances and limiting your opposition to as little as possible but hopefully we get a good run at it now and showcase some of our key players throughout the summer”.
