Limerick captain Nickie Quaid is targeting a place in the quarter-finals of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship ahead of this evening’s must-win game with Clare.

Whoever progresses from the Round Two qualifier will play either Galway or the losers of Waterford or Tipperary. Quaid is eager for Limerick to be in the draw with the defeated provincial finalists. “I still think there is a lot more in us – I hope that a win under our belt will give us momentum.”

Nickie will line out in goals for the Treaty County as they aim to overcome the challenge of Clare at the same stage in which they knocked the Banner out of the 2012 championship. “It is a top team now and we went out this time last year so we now hope that we can get to a quarter final and we would have two championship wins under our belt then and that would stand to us.”

The Effin clubman isn’t too interested in the opposition but insists Limerick’s focus must be entirely on themselves. “We have to focus on ourselves more than anything, we have to get ourselves right and if we perform to our best we have a great chance of beating anyone”.
