The scene of this afternoon’s collision on the M18 south of Gort

Three people had a narrow escaped when their car crashed on the M18 in poor conditions today.

The singe vehicle collision happened at around 3.00pm in the southbound lanes between Gort and Crusheen.

Units of the fire brigade from Gort and Ennis were initially mobilised to the scene however, due to confusion over the exact location of the accident, several units from Shannon also responded.

A HSE ambulance and Gardaí also attended the incident.

The three occupants of the car were treated at the scene by paramedics and did not require hospitalisation.

The incident occurred following a recent hail shower while heavy rain was also reported in the area.


Chief Reporter Pat Flynn has worked as a journalist for almost 30 years. His career began during the late 1980s when, like many aspiring radio presenters of the time, he worked for local pirate radio stations in Clare and Limerick.
