To date 2016 has been a memorable year for Clare football having secured promotion to Division 2 of the Allianz National Football League, now a regular starter Eoin Cleary is enjoying this year’s campaign.

A scorer of two points in Sunday’s Munster Championship victory over Limerick, Cleary is thrilled with the amount of game-time he has got in 2016 but is critical of his display over the seventy minutes despite putting his name on the scoresheet and getting a couple of assists.

He told The Clare Herald “This is my first year nailing down a place properly so am I’m delighted the way things are going at the moment, today could have went better for me I suppose, listen we’ll drive it on for two weeks time and hopefully we’ll all improve our performance”.

The Clare attacker admits that the opening thirty five minutes was the side’s worst all year. “It’s more relief than anything, I suppose our first half performance was one of our worst all year so we were very disappointed with that. Second half we picked it up a nice bit and thankfully in the end we got the win that’s the most important thing just to drive it on now for two weeks time in Kerry”.

To rectify what had happened was the main discussion in the Banner dressing room at half time. “We came together collectively and just decided the things that were working and weren’t working, we were standing off our men and we weren’t running for each other, we weren’t running in numbers and we weren’t really helping each other or playing as a team and I think that cost us but at the start of the second half we worked together as a team, we moved the ball quickly and we defended in numbers and I think that’s why we got the result today” the St Josephs Miltown man reflected.
