At the Annual General Meeting of the Shannon Municipal District Cllr. John Crowe (Fine Gael) from Sixmilebridge was elected Cathaoirleach on Tuesday evening.

Sinn Féin Cllr Mike McKee was appointed to the position of Leas Cathaoirleach.

Councillor Crowe succeeds Cllr PJ Ryan (Independent) in the role while Cllr McKee assumes the Leas Cathaoirleach position which was held by the incoming Cathaoirleach for the past year.

Crowe served as Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council for a one year stint which began in July 2014. Mike McKee is Sinn Féin’s only elected representative in the Banner County.

All Municipal Districts have now appointed their Chairperson for the coming year with Tony O’Brien, Ann Norton and Bill Slattery the other nominated representatives.
