LIT to offer new course in Ennis

litFrom September, Limerick Institute of Technology will be offering a degree programme in Ennis and it marks the first time that individuals will be able to study to degree level in the town.

Interim president of LIT, Terry Twomey, has confirmed that the institute will be offering a degree programme in Social Care Work in Ennis from September. “We are very pleased to be able to offer this programme in Ennis. This is the professional qualification required to become a social care worker, in addition to being a strong academic degree in its own right.

The three year programme will see students based in Ennis for the duration. Applications can be made directly through LIT and from next year it will also be on the CAO.

Twomey feels the course will be of an advantage to the town of Ennis. “Having Higher Education available in Ennis means that it will be easier to access this kind of qualification for people who might otherwise find it difficult to study in Limerick or Galway. The fact that there will be a body of students located in Ennis should be beneficial to the town itself”.

He added that it underlines the importance of the County to the institute. “LIT’s offering this degree in Ennis reflects the importance of Clare in the institute. Over 1,000 Clare people are already working or studying in LIT. We want to reflect this unique relationship more fully by expanding our presence in the county”.

Terry concluded “I’m very hopeful that this degree programme will be successful in Ennis and will grow LIT’s presence in Ennis.”

Potential students can apply directly to LIT now for the programme at lit.ie/admissions or phone 061 293262 or email admissions@lit.ie.
