Twenty seven points was the margin as Clondegad strolled into the last eight and kept themselves in the race for Jack Daly. Kilkee failed to cope without the services of talisman Michael O’Shea while the suspended Chris Williamson was a big loss too.

It was always going to be a tough task for the Saints to overcome Clondegad but these absentees made it a lot more difficult.

With fifteen minutes on the clock the 2015 semi-finalists had built up a lead of nine points. When the half-time whistle sounded a quarter of an hour later they had increased that advantage to twenty two points.

Kilkee limited Clondegad to 2-04 in the second half while kicking four points of their own but once the sides went in at half-time it was already game-over.

In truth this game will serve Clondegad little good, heading into the quarter-finals they needed to be tested but this wasn’t what happened in Cooraclare. Kilkee’s 2016 championship shouldn’t just be remembered for this dark hour and they’ll be doing their best to forget all about it.
