Clare hurlers to launch Matchmaking Festival

Clare’s Senior Hurlers will launch this year’s Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival – as part of a ‘Club Clare’ fundraising event at the Hydro Hotel.

Fans will have the opportunity to meet and have their picture taken with the Clare Senior Hurling team on Friday 31st August.  Entertainment on the night will include live music in the bar and the Q night club will be open. The team will be in the hotel from 11pm to late, doors open at 8pm.

Proceeds from the night go to Club Clare Hurling Supporters to fund the provision of identified facilities, equipment and services for Clare hurling.

Speaking ahead of the launch Marcus White, Managing Director of White Tours and Hotels: “It’s wonderful to have the Clare Senior Hurlers to launch this year’s Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival.  The team have had a fantastic year and we’d like to show our support by hosting the Club Clare Fundraiser at the hotel.”

“We have a great line up of entertainment planned on the night, with the Moynihan Brothers, Teddy and Cathal Barry playing in in the Hydro Bar and DJ Anil in the Q club.”

“It’s also the start of the Country music weekends in Lisdoonvarna with Declan Nerney, Gerry Guthrie, Lisa McHugh and DJ Gerry Sexton all playing in the Marquee, so we are expecting a big turnout on the Friday night.”

The country music continues the following weekend on the 7th-8th September, with Derek Ryan, Mike Denver and Cliona Hagan, headlining in the Marquee.

Clare Senior Hurling Joint Managers, Donal Moloney and Gerry Connor commented, “We would like to acknowledge the Hydro Hotel and White Tours & Hotels for their support in organising this fundraiser. The players and management look forward to meeting Clare supporters on the night.

He continued: “We would like to sincerely thank Clare supporters at home and abroad for contributing to Club Clare Hurling Supporters throughout 2018. By doing so, they have helped to fund the provision of identified facilities, equipment and services for Clare hurling and consequently, have supported our group on and off the pitch during the year.

This year’s Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival will run for five weeks’ from the 31st August until the 30th September, with music every day from 11am in the morning to late. The traditional dance weekends are on the 14th-16th September, 21nd -23rd September and 28th – 30th September featuring some of Ireland’s leading show bands who will play at the Hydro and Imperial Hotels.

These include Teddy and Cathal Barry, Outa Diesel, Blue Ridge Country, the Moynihan Brothers, Michael Sexton, Pat Dowling and the Lisdoonvarna Showband. Ireland’s top soul singer Buck Taylor will play the Hydro Hotel every Saturday in September.
