Munster & Leinster to battle it out on the golf course

With both Munster and Leinster guaranteed a place in the Champions Cup quarter finals, two former players will step onto European soil at the end of the month to battle it out on golf courses in the Algarve.

This new golf competition is being launched to mark the introduction of a new ‘live’ golf booking service in Portugal by Limerick-based Golf Voyager. Fintan Ward of Cratloe and Conor Galvin are the brains by the innovative offering. Unable to book a golf holiday online, they decided to build a new, and world first, ‘real-time’ dynamic golf package booking engine.

After four years of development work, linkages developed with 600,000 hotels and 24,000 golf courses in 192 countries, and powered by Booking.com, the platform is already live in Spain and Ireland, with live booking in Portugal now being launched.

“What better way to launch our latest offering than extend the ‘friendly’ rivalry and mutual respect that exists between Munster and Leinster players and fans onto the lush fairways at Vila Sol Golf Resort in Portugal and invite two legends of Irish rugby to lead out Munster vs Leinster teams of golfers on neutral soil,” says Golf Voyager COO, Fintan Ward.

David Wallace will captain ‘Team Munster’ with his former Irish and Lions teammate, Luke Fitzgerald leading ‘Team Leinster’ in a Ryder Cup style format with 2 Munster opposite 2 Leinster making up the groupings. The Algarve Golf Challenge will see the best team of 2 (four-ball 3/4 handicap) score after the 2 days walk away with first prize being a golf holiday.

There are prizes for the top 10 teams valued at over €4000. At the end of two days play either Wally or Luke will be lifting the cup as winners of the inaugural Golf Voyager ‘Algarve Challenge 2017’

“We have been amazed at the response to this innovative challenge. Over 60 golfers, men and women, have already booked in to travel and we have decided to leave the booking open for another week to cater for the those still wishing to travel”, Ward added.

The Algarve Golf Challenge takes place from Friday 27th to Monday 30th January 2017. The event is open to all golfers aged 18 and over, with no handicap restrictions so all levels of golfers are invited to participate.
