Man arrested following serious Shannon collision

A man has been arrested following yesterday’s road traffic collision in Shannon Co Clare which has left a 10-year-old boy fighting for his in hospital.

The incident occurred at around 2.10pm on Sunday at Purcell park in the town.

The seriously injured boy was initially airlifted to University Hospital Limerick to receive treatment for serious injuries but has since been transferred to Children’s Health Ireland at Temple Street in Dublin.

Gardaí have now confirmed that a man in his 20s was arrested in connection with the incident but has since been released pending further investigations.

The road at Purcell Park in Shannon reopened to traffic at around 3.45pm following completion of a technical examination of the scene this afternoon. The van involved in the collision has been removed from the scene for further examination.

Gardaí are appealing to any witnesses of this collision to come forward.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Any road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were traveling in the Purcell Park area between 1:45 pm and 2:30 pm on Sunday afternoon are asked to provide this footage to Gardaí.
