Update: Met Éireann has now issued a Status Yellow Rain Warning for Clare on top of the earlier wind alert.
The warning will affect Clare, Galway, Roscommon, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath.
Met Éireann says we can expect ‘heavy rain spreading northeastwards.’
The potential impacts of the rainfall included:
• Localised flooding
• Difficult travelling conditions
The rain warning will take affect at 10.00pm this evening (Thursday) and will remain in place until 4.00am on Friday.
Earlier: Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow Wind Warning for the province of Munster and a number of other counties overnight.
The warning is for all of Munster as well as Kilkenny, Carlow, Laois, Wexford and Wicklow.
Forecasters have said: “Unseasonably strong and gusty south to southwest winds veering west to northwest will coincide with very high tides.”
The potential impacts of the strong winds include:
• Coastal flooding
• Wave over-topping
• Power outages
• Fallen trees
The warning, issued at 8.55am today, will come into effect at midnight tonight (Thursday) and remain valid until 6.00am on Friday.
Meanwhile, a Status Yellow Gale Warning has also been published for coastal areas from Carlingford Lough to Hook Head to Loop Head and on the Irish Sea.
South to southwest or cyclonic variable winds will reach gale force 8 or 9 at times.
The warning will come into effect at 11.00pm on Thursday and will remain effective until 9.00am on.
