Man dies following Ennis RTC on December 8th

An elderly man, seriously injured when he was struck by a vehicle in Ennis town centre earlier this month, has died in hospital.

GardaĆ­ are appealing for witnesses following the collision that occurred in the Abbey Street area of Ennis, Co. Clare on Monday, 8th December 2025 at approximately 1pm. The incident occurred at the entrance to the Abbey Street car park opposite the Queen’s Hotel.

The collision involved a van and a pedestrian. GardaĆ­ and National Ambulance Service paramedics responded to the incident along units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service.

The pedestrian, a male in his 80s, was conveyed to hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The man passed away yesterday.

The Coroner was notified and a post-mortem examination has since been completed, the results of which are not being made public.

GardaĆ­ are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the Abbey Street area between 12:45pm and 1:15pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating GardaĆ­.

Investigations are ongoing.
