Children aged 8-12 years are invited to visit Clare Museum from 11am to 1pm on Saturday, June 6, where they can enjoy a morning of exploration and sketching with visual artist, Leigh O’Connell.
A Cruinniú na nÓg event, ‘Sketch Hunters’ tasks participants with exploring the objects in the Clare County Council-managed museum, choosing their favourite one and creating sketches inspired by that object. Sketches will be showcased in a temporary exhibition before being returned to their illustrator.
Visual artist, Leigh O’Connell, works with various media and enjoys community work, which equips her to work with whatever medium is needed for the project at hand. The form and function of art pieces are an intricate part of Leigh’s practice; she is a strong believer in recycling materials where possible and in bringing new life to old things – be that a plastic bottle or a disused wall.
As a youth volleyball coach of over 20 years and a previous life as an administrator in a youth mental health service, Leigh has a particular interest in youth engagement, especially in rural communities where they can be a forgotten element within the community.
Places are limited and must be booked. To book, please email claremuseum@clarecoco.ie.
This is a free event funded by Creative Ireland Clare, as part of Creative Ireland’s Cruinniú na nÓg initiative. Visit www.cruinniu.gov.ie for more information.
