Three people hospitalised after N18 collision

Three people have been taken to hospital for assessment following a multi-vehicle collision on the N18 in Co Clare this afternoon.

The incident, which involved four cars, occurred at around 4.30pm in the northbound carriageway between Junction 5 (Cratloe) and Junction 6 (Bunratty).

National Ambulance Service paramedics, GardaĆ­ and units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Shannon station attended along with crews from Limerick City Fire and Rescue Service.

The route was closed at Junction 5 so that emergency services could safely deal with the incident.

The occupants of all four cars were assessed at the scene by ambulance paramedics and three were later transported to hospital as a precaution.

Once the vehicles had been recovered from the scene and the area made safe, the N18 was reopened to traffic.

Meanwhile, while fire crews from Shannon were dealing with the collision, a gorse for reported at West Park in Shannon.

Units of the fire service from the nearest station in Ennis were mobilised to deal with that incident and were joined by their colleagues from Shannon once the N18 collision had been dealt with.
