Young cyclist airlifted to hospital following East Clare collision

A young boy is recovering in hospital following a road traffic collision in East Clare on Monday evening.

The boy is understood to have been cycling along a local road near Ogonnelloe when he was involved in a collision with a tractor. The incident occurred on the L8192 at Bealkelly.

Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Scarriff station responded to the scene shortly after 6.00pm. National Ambulance Service paramedic s and Gardaí also attended the incident.

The Cork-based HSE Emergency Aeromedical Service air ambulance, Aeromed-01, was also dispatched to the scene. The injured boy was airlifted to University Hospital Galway for treatment. He was later transferred to Crumlin Children’s Hospital for further treatment.

The scene was preserved by Gardaí pending completion of a technical examination.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed: “Gardaí are investigating a road traffic collision involving a juvenile on a bicycle and a tractor which occurred at approximately 6pm yesterday, 10th August 2026 on the L8192 Bealkelly, Ogonnnelloe in Co. Clare.

The juvenile sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Galway University Hospital before being transferred to Crumlin Children’s Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

A full forensic examination of the scene has been completed, and the road has since been reopened.”
