Four people have been hospitalised following a road traffic collision in Co Clare that involved an Irish Red Cross ambulance.
The incident, which also involved a car, occurred at around 2.00pm on the N68 Ennis to Kilrush Road at Gortygeeheen about a kilometre from Lissycasey.
The Irish Red Cross vehicle left the road and down an embankment before coming to a stop in its side.
Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Ennis station responded to the incident along with Gardaà and multiple National Ambulance Service resources including ambulances and advanced paramedic response vehicles.
Fire crews used ladders to climb down the embankment to reach the vehicle and those still inside. It took some time for fire crews and paramedics to safely remove all the casualties from the mini-bus.
A total of four people were transported to hospital for treatment. It’s understood that no serious injuries have been reported. The occupants of the car escaped injury.
The N68 was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident but was reopened at 4.20pm. The car involved in the collision was removed from the scene by a recovery company while arrangements are being made to remove the Red Cross vehicle later.
