Man’s body recovered from lake in Kilmaley

Gardaí are investigating all three tragedies

A man has died following an apparent drowning accident in Co Clare.

Named locally as Colm Devitt from Dromadrehid, the 41-year-old’s body was discovered in reeds on the shore at Lough Burke near Kilmaley on Saturday evening.

He had been walking his dogs when the tragedy happened.

It’s understood that the man may have suffered a seizure or fit before falling into the water. His body was found by two fisherman who also raised the alarm.

Emergency services arrived at the scene however Mr Devitt was pronounced dead.

His body was removed to University Hospital Limerick where a postmortem is due to take place later.

It was the third tragedy in Clare in as many days.

On Thursday night, Thomas Bernard Walsh suffered fatal injuries while operating a rotary mower on land at his home at Shragh, Doonbeg.

On Friday afternoon, Kieran O’Driscoll died when he became trapped in the dumper truck he had been working near Fanore. Both me were in their 50’s.

Gardaí are investigating all three incidents and have informed the county coroner while the Doonbeg tragedy is also being probed by the Health and Safety Authority (HSA).
