The Clare Peace Park Initiative committee will hold a dedication service of a new memorial erected in remembrance of more than 600 Clare people who died in several war zones in battles on land, at sea and in the air during World War One.
More than 4,000 Clare men fought in various Allied armies, American, British, French and Commonwealth forces, (Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa), during the years of conflict, 1914-1918.
Also remembered are the civilians who were tragically killed during the war and all those who were bereaved by the deaths – the widows and children, as well as the parents and siblings – who suffered because of the untimely deaths of their loved ones.
The memorial also commemorates the thousands of brave combatants who survived the war, but were wounded physically or psychologically during that terrible conflict.
The committee acknowledges the contributions from private donations, Clare County Council and the Ireland 1916 to 2016 Centenary Programme towards this project.
The unveiling event will take place on Sunday November 27th at 2.00pm.
