A planning application is set to be submitted to Clare County Council by a company hoping to reopen the former Shannon Shamrock Hotel in Bunratty.

Crescent House Limited has confirmed its intention to apply for permission for the refurbishment of the former hotel.

The plan includes the ‘partial demolition of existing structures at the rear of the building’ as well as the ‘refurbishment and reconfiguration’ of the existing hotel structure including 55 bedrooms, kitchen, bar and the conversion of the swimming pool into a function room.

A planning notice, which was erected at the hotel on Friday, highlights other planned works including meeting rooms, conservatory as well as storage and offices.

The application will also seek permission for the provision of car parking, landscaping and ‘all associated works’.

In its heyday, when owned by the well known Dublin based Fitzpatrick family, the Shannon Shamrock Hotel was one of the most successful in the region. It was popular with tourists, airline crews as well as celebrity artists and musicians who performed at venues in Limerick and Clare.
