Ophelia clean-up continues in Clare

The clean-up after Monday’s storm continued today with Clare County Council staff, fire crews and Coillte personnel working to clear fallen trees.

The R471 Sixmilebridge to Clonlara road was closed for a time while a tree left hanging over the road and telephone cables was removed.

Council workers and staff from the state forestry agency Coillte made the tree safe and were able to reopen the road.

Fire crews from Ennis also dealt with an incident in Crusheen where telephone cables were also damaged by a fallen tree.

Meanwhile, ESB Networks staff are endeavouring to restore power to the last of the customers affected by Storm Ophelia.

Irish Water is also working to resolve issues in West Clare.
