Over 2,000 attend Engineering Showcase at Shannon Airport

The Explore Engineering Showcase, held on Thursday at Shannon Airport, welcomed more than 2,000 students, parents, and educators for a dynamic day celebrating careers and innovation in engineering.

The event brought together leading engineering companies, industry professionals, and education providers from the Mid-West region to inspire the next generation of engineers. Students from across the region had the opportunity to explore interactive exhibits, speak directly with engineers, and discover the wide range of career pathways available within the sector.

Throughout the evening, attendees engaged with hands-on demonstrations and real-world engineering projects, offering a unique insight into how engineering shapes everything from infrastructure and technology to aviation and sustainability. Parents were also able to learn more about the education, skills, and pathways available for future careers in the field.

Organisers described the showcase as a major success, highlighting the enthusiasm and curiosity shown by students as they explored the stands and spoke with professionals working across multiple engineering disciplines.

“The turnout and engagement were incredible,” said Eimear Brophy, Chairperson for Explore Engineering said. “Seeing over 2,000 students and parents come together to learn about engineering demonstrates the growing interest in STEM careers and the importance of connecting young people with industry.”

Hosting the event at Shannon Airport provided a fitting backdrop, with aviation and engineering at the heart of the region’s heritage and economy. The venue also allowed participants to experience first-hand the real-world environments where engineering expertise is applied every day.

The Explore Engineering Showcase aims to encourage students to consider careers in engineering by highlighting the creativity, problem-solving, and impact of the profession. Following the strong attendance and positive feedback from schools, parents, and industry partners, organisers say the event continues to grow as a key initiative in promoting engineering to young people.
