It was celebrations all round in Shannon when Shannon-based Advanced Technical Concepts (ATC) was awarded the All-Ireland Business Foundation’s Best Medium Business Award 2019 at the Foundation’s annual All-Ireland Business Summit in Croke Park. The company’s win was based on a detailed submission and live judging on the day.
In business since 1993, and operating from two sites, one in Smithstown, Shannon and the second in Drombanna, Co Limerick, ATC supports supply chain and delivers engineering services to multinational companies in a wide range of sectors including medical device, pharmaceutical, food and beverage. Originally focussed on sealing and jointing components, the company has expanded its offerings and now manages its business across five different units. These include 3D printing (of prototypes and components) and bespoke lean builds and Kaizen products that help customers remove non-value add processes.
Reacting to the company’s win, managing director, Marie Clifford said: “This award of Best Medium Business of 2019, which recognises us against our peers, further vindicates the hard work of our team, who are dedicated to providing a best-in- class service to all our customers.
“When I talk about team ATC, I can categorically say that we have the right people on the bus. The last two years have seen us really focus on getting a great team in place – the right people with the right attitude – as well as investing in an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system to allow us to put in place the foundations to scale for growth.
“In achieving this award, we join a unique group of businesses in demonstrating our commitment to improving our products and service to our customers and suppliers. Committed to growing a sustainable business, the adoption of a lean philosophy has proven key with a desire by all the team to remove any non-value add activities so that we are always offering our customers best value. Part of building a strong team has been our continued investment in our people; we currently have five staff members pursuing green and black belts.
“As an SME, we offer flexibility and autonomy as well as a great location. We are driven by a desire to always deliver the best and add value and, a desire to always encourage continuous improvement.” added Ms Clifford.
Congratulating ATC on attaining this tremendous accolade, Shannon Chamber CEO Helen Downes added: “ATC is an exemplar SME. We have watched its progress over the years and observed the determination of the CEO, Marie Clifford, to put systems and structures in place to take the company to a new level. Company representatives attend most of the Chamber’s and the Mid-West Lean Network’s events to absorb new learning and embed best practice in the organisation. This a well-deserved award and we will now watch with interest how ATC progresses in the Energia Manufacturing & Engineering Family Business of the Year award, in which it is shortlisted, when the winners are announced on Friday, 24 May in the Mansion House Dublin.”
