Former Munster and Ireland hooker Damien Varley is the new owner of The White House Bar in Limerick.
Killaloe man Varley was forced to retire from rugby in February 2015 due to a foot injury. He is reported to have purchased the pub located in O’Connell Street for €650,000. UK resident Kirsty Peacocke is listed as a director along with Damien of The White House Bar Ltd which was set up in April 2016.
The pub, which was bought in 1999 for the equivalent of €1m, is renowned for its promotion of local musicians, songwriters and wordsmiths.
Throughout the two hundred year history of The White House Bar figures such as Frank McCourt, Richard Harris and Jack Charlton have been spotted drinking pints in the establishment.
Varley was forced to retired form rugby in 2013 after sustaining a foot injury during training.
He was capped three times for Ireland and made over 120 appearances for the province, scoring 12 tries.
