It has been a long-term objective of Clare County Council to create a world-class Greenway along the route of the old West Clare Railway “from Ennis as far as Kilkee” that, crucially, connects with all of the towns and villages along the way.
Shannon Group has confirmed that it is in discussions with local authorities in Clare and Limerick on the transfer of the Shannon Heritage company and all its visitor attractions in Co. Clare (including Bunratty Castle) to Clare County Council, with King John’s Castle transferring to Limerick City and County Council.
Communities on either side of the Shannon Estuary were united as part of a unique event last week, as the renowned Ilen ship followed the path of the old Cargo Ships down the Shannon Estuary, transporting ‘Gift Cargo Boxes’ between communities on each side of the Estuary.
