Clare Arts Office in conjunction with Cultúrlann Sweeney Library Gallery is will host “Walks from the Pollock Holes to Santiago,” an exhibition of art by Marianne Potterton.
Marianne Potterton has 25 years experience working as a professional artist. Potterton is a visual artist based in Doolin Co. Clare. While she was in college she would often stay in Kilkee and paint The Pollock Holes and walk along the coast line painting, drawing and writing poetry.
Her practice spans across and connects a diverse range of disciplines, bridging ways of making and seeing; from painting and poetry to long distance walking, interventions and working with found materials.
Drawing inspiration from Eastern philosophy, Indigenous people Worldwide, Activism and Pilgrimage. For 10 years she has opened her studio to the public, holding exhibitions, workshops and events. Working in the community as well as exhibiting her work in galleries. Potterton’s art is in many private collections globally. These paintings on display are from a new series of ink on canvas works.
Currently, (until 24th February) she is also exhibiting some other paintings from this series in The Courthouse Gallery in Ennistymon. For her most recent project Potterton has been going back almost every day to a particular place to walk and spend time between painting in her studio, and seeing how this kind of pilgrimage affects her paintings over a month.
