Spark & Serenade pairs two of the most beautiful works ever written for strings. Schubert’s Arpeggione Sonata, performed by Kraggerud in a captivating arrangement for viola and strings, is music of extraordinary intimacy. Tender, lyrical and deeply human, it unfolds like a heartfelt conversation, drawing you into a world of warmth, vulnerability and quiet hope. Kraggerud’s distinctive viola sound reveals every nuance, making each phrase feel immediate and personal.

The mood blossoms into the rich, radiant sound of Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, one of the composer’s most popular masterworks. Brimming with soaring melodies and dancing rhythms, it is music that’s exhilarating and profoundly moving. From moments of gentle reflection to bursts of joyful energy, the work celebrates everything that makes ICO such a thrilling and emotional force.

Together, these two masterworks create a journey from intimate reflection to full-hearted celebration. Schubert speaks softly to the soul, Tchaikovsky answers with music that lifts the spirits. Under Kraggerud’s direction, these concerts promise not only exceptional artistry but an experience that feels welcoming, engaging and very alive. Whether hearing these classics for the first time or rediscovering them afresh, you can expect an evening of music that is immediate, illuminating and unforgettable. Not to be missed in Dublin and Limerick on 15 and 16 October.

Proudly based at the University of Limerick and supported by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon, Irish Chamber Orchestra creates extraordinary live musical experiences, commissions new work, nurtures exceptional artistic talent and connects with audiences across Ireland and beyond.
