Irish Chamber Orchestra (ICO) lights up the month of September with two compelling offerings, a powerful one-night-only performance at the Westport Chamber Music Festival and a captivating three-date tour with Water Music which includes a stop at the Clifden Arts Festival.
On Friday 12 September, ICO makes a much-anticipated return to Westport, where ICO violinist André Swanepoel leads a vibrant and emotionally charged programme. Be enthralled by the deep expressiveness of Haydn’s Seven Last Words and the bold intensity of Mozart’s Adagio & Fugue. Bach’s joyful Violin Concerto No. 2 adds sparkle, before the concert takes an exhilarating turn with Woven, a brand-new commission by acclaimed Irish composer Donnacha Dennehy, written for Ji Hye Jung (marimba) and Guy Johnston (cello).
The evening closes in celebratory fashion with Bach’s Double Violin Concerto, performed by Benjamin Schmid and Pablo Hernán Benedí.
From 18-20 September, ICO adds Clifden (Clifden Arts Festival) to its seasonal offering of Water Music in Limerick and Dublin. This mesmerising programme is steered by the internationally acclaimed conductor, Richard Egarr. Enjoy an elemental journey with Deirdre McKay’s Meltwater, a hauntingly beautiful meditation on change and nature’s quiet power. Be swept away by the grandeur and festive brilliance of Handel’s Water Music, one of the most enduring and beloved works of the Baroque era.
Catch ICO at Whyte Recital Hall, RIAM, Dublin on Thursday 18 September, at the Clifden Arts Festival on Friday 19 September, and at University Concert Hall, Limerick on Saturday 20 September.
As Ireland’s national chamber orchestra, ICO continues to redefine the concert experience with imaginative programming and world-class performances. Based at the University of Limerick, ICO performs across Ireland supported by the Arts Council of Ireland / An Chomhairle Ealaíon.
