The kindness and goodwill of a young Kilshanny girl is set to raise hairs all over the County in the coming weeks.

Saoirse Gallagher has been turning heads for the past few months because of her hair which is a remarkable fifty three inches long. At 5pm on Saturday June 23rd, Saoirse’s hair will be cut at Lahinch Hair Boutique to raise money for two different charities. Remarkably, the length and thickness of her hair means Saoirse’s donation is four times more than the usual donation.

Over a year ago, Saoirse lost her grandfather, Steve Gallagher to cancer and this is a big inspiration to her in doing her bit for charity. Steve was born in Lackamore but lived in England since the age of fourteen. To acknowledge the work of the local hospice that cared for her grandfather, the funds raised will be split between Compton Hospice Ltd and the Rapunzel Foundation who will use the donated hair to children who due to illness have lost their own hair.

Clare Gallagher told The Clare Herald how impressed she is of her daughter. “I’m so proud of Saoirse, her hair is admired by everybody that sees it and she’s so brave and considerate to cut it for two great causes”.

She added. “Saoirse’s friends and family will be present for the cut and we welcome anybody who’d like to come along to support Saoirse and even donate on the day. It’s a big deal for anybody to get their cut when it’s long but Saoirse’s hair is in a league of its own which makes this even more of a momentous occasion”.

Members of the public are being asked to get behind the eleven year old’s bid to raise money for the two charities. An online link has been setup where individuals will be able to donate money to the campaign. Click here to access it.
