Two days of family fun are promised at Craggaunowen this Bank Holiday Weekend, as ‘Samhradh Spraoi’ provides a programme of activities running from 10am to 4pm on both Sunday and Monday, August 2nd and 3rd.
Sunday’s programme brings a dazzling bubble show, colourful face painting and thrilling archery, all set to the sounds of live traditional Irish music. Children can transform into their favourite characters, creatures and heroes with vibrant designs from Silly Cat Face Painting, while the spectacular bubble show fills the air with shimmering bubbles that float, dance and burst across the grounds, delighting kids and adults alike. Face painting runs from 11.30am to 1.30pm and again from 2pm to 3.30pm, while the bubble show takes to the grounds at 11.45am, 1pm, 1.45pm and 3pm.
Monday brings a new day of adventure as Craggaunowen comes alive with a full afternoon of traditional Irish field games for all the family, running from 11:30am to 3:30pm. Visitors can test their strength and skill across a range of classic events including hurling, weight for distance, pole hopping, skittles, welly throwing, road bowling and horseshoe throwing.
Additionally, running across both days from 10am to 4pm, the expert team from Archery Ireland will be on-site to guide visitors of all abilities, from seasoned pros to curious beginners. Under their friendly and expert instruction, participants will learn the stance, the draw and the release, helping them hit that bullseye, as families and friends cheer each other on and take turns at the line.
Live music will also feature across the weekend, with Clarecastle/Ballyea Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (CCÉ) performing from 1pm to 4pm on both Sunday and Monday. CCÉ is a vibrant community organisation committed to keeping traditional Irish heritage alive by bringing people together to learn, practice and celebrate music, song, dance and language, and their talented young musicians will treat audiences to a lively performance of outstanding traditional tunes.
Visitors can also follow the delicious aromas to the fired-up grill, serving up a host of appetising barbecue favourites throughout the day to keep energy levels up for all the activities. Items on offer include a beef burger, a classic hot dog, BBQ spare ribs and nettle dumplings. Food and beverages are not included in the ticket price and are available for purchase on the day.
