Hundreds of children from across County Clare will next week receive certificates marking their participation in the 2016 Summer Stars Programme.
Run by Clare County Library and other library services throughout the country, the annual literacy initiative encourages children to continue reading, visiting their local library and joining in reading-related fun activities during July and August.
In a fitting end to the reading initiative, Clare County Library welcomes young readers from Library Branches in Corofin, Tulla and Ennis to an awards presentation at the Temple Gate Hotel in Ennis at 6.30 p.m. next Tuesday (13 September), which also marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of famed children’s book author Roald Dahl.
Special guest on the evening is actor, artist and all-round funny man Wayne O’Connor who specialises in performing the author’s stories and rhymes to audiences all over Ireland. The event includes Mr. O’Connor’s Roald Dahl show and the presentation of certificates to children who completed the Summer Stars Programme, as well as treats and raffle prizes for participants.
Further presentation events for Summer Star participants at libraries in the Kilrush, Scariff, Shannon and Ennistymon regions will take place later this month. Participants will be notified of the events by their local library in the coming weeks.
