Clare County Council is inviting funding applications for small-scale infrastructure projects from schools, Local Development Companies and established community groups located in CLÁR areas of the county.

The Department of Rural and Community Development has announced a new round of funding for 2018 under the CLÁR scheme, a targeted investment programme for rural areas that aims to provide funding for small-scale infrastructural projects in areas which have suffered the greatest levels of population decline.

Funding is being provided under two measures, namely Support for Schools/Community Safety Measures (Measure 1) and Play Areas including MUGAs (Measure 2).

Up to 15 applications in total, between measures 1 and 2, may be selected by Clare County Council, providing that they are of sufficient quality and are consistent with developmental planning at a local level, LECP’s, Town plans and any other relevant plans, for onward submission to the Department for its consideration.

Councillor Tom McNamara, Mayor of Clare, said, “I am confident this scheme will be of great benefit to the county delivering a range of small-scale infrastructure projects in schools and communities.”

Pat Dowling, Chief Executive of Clare County Council, commented, “There is an allocation of €5million in total for 2018, of which, up to €4 million is available under 2 measures to be operated via Local Authorities, including Clare County Council.  Clare has benefited significantly under the scheme in the past so I would invite funding applications from schools, Local Development Companies and established community groups.”

The closing date for receipt of applications is Monday, 16th April 2018
