The Irish Aviation Authority has issue advice to passengers following the recent serious incidents involving a Samsung smart phone.
The IAA, the authority responsible for aviation regulation and safety in Ireland, is “strongly advising” travellers who use the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 device to switch them off if flying.
Samsung has already recalled the device following dozens of reports worldwide that the phones have been exploding in flames. Devices sent to customers as replacements have also been catching fire.
As a result, Samsung has asked retailers around the world to stop selling or exchanging the device while they investigate the cause of the problem.
Last week, one of the phones caught fire on board a flight in the US.
The IAA said today: “In light of recent incidents and concerns raised by Samsung about its Galaxy Note 7 devices, the Irish Aviation Authority strongly advises passengers to power down and refrain from charging these devices on board aircraft.”
“Passengers are also asked not to stow them in any checked-in baggage. This applies to all Samsung Galaxy Note 7 devices, including recalled and replacement devices,” the spokesman said.
