Man due in court over Limerick fatal assault

GardaĆ­ investigating the fatal assault have charged a second man in relation to this matter.

The man aged in his 30s is due to appear before a special sitting of Ennis District Court,Ā today at midday.

GardaĆ­ have also confirmed that a woman, aged in her 30s, was arrested on Sunday, 17th April 2022 in relation to this investigation. She was later released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Saturday, April 23rd

GardaĆ­ investigating the fatal assault of a man, aged in his 40s, that occurred at Parnell Street, Limerick on Friday 15th April 2022 have charged one man.

The man, aged in his 30s, is due to appear before a Special Sitting of Ennis District Court today, Saturday 23rd April 2022 at 5pm.

A second male, aged in his 30s, who was also arrested yesterday, remains detained in Henry Street Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Investigations are ongoing.

Friday, April 22nd

GardaĆ­ investigating the fatal assault of a man (late 30s) that occurred at Parnell Street, Limerick on Friday 15th April, 2022 have arrested two men this afternoon .

Both men (mid 30s & late 30s) are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Roxboro Road Garda station and Henry Street Garda station.

Investigations ongoing.

Sunday, April 17th

5.30pm – Renewing An Garda SĆ­ochĆ”na’s appeal for information, Superintendent Dermot O’Connor of Roxboro station, who is leading the inquiry, spoke to the media near the scene this afternoon.

“Our appeal is for witnesses to come forward. Our first appeal is for any person or persons who were in the Parnell Street area in Limerick on Good Friday, 15 April, between 10pm and 10.40pm; for any person or road-users who were in Parnell Street and adjoining Lord Edward Street and Davis Street who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, to make that footage available to our investigating team,ā€ he said.

“We also ask for any person who may have information relevant to our investigation please to contact Roxboro Road Garda Station on 061 214340 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111,” Supt Oā€™Connor added.

GardaĆ­ in Limerick are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the fatal assault of a man that occurred at Parnell Street in Limerick City last night.Ā 

Officers attended the scene of the incident at approximately 10:25pm and discovered a man, aged in his 40s, with serious injuries. He was removed from the scene to University Hospital Limerick to be treated before he later passed.

The scene is currently preserved to allow for a technical examination to take place. The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified and a post-mortem will be conducted later today.

GardaĆ­ in Roxboro Road are appealing to any person who may have information in relation to this incident to contact them.

Any person who was in the Parnell Street, Lord Edward Street and Davis Street areas of Limerick last night, between 10pm and 10:40pm, who may have camera footage of the area is asked to make this available to GardaĆ­. Similarly, if any road user was travelling in the area and who may have camera (including dash cam) footage is asked to make this available to investigating GardaĆ­.

Any person with any information which may be relevant to the Garda investigation should contact Roxboro Road Garda Station on 061 214 340, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

No arrests have been made at this stage, investigations are ongoing.
