The ambulance service and gardaĆ were alerted and the man was rushed to University Hospital Limerick where he was later pronounced dead.

It had been initially feared that the man had been the victim of a hit-and-run incident.

It’s understood the man had only been released from hospital in recent days. It’s thought he may have collapsed while returning home on Tuesday night or early on Wednesday morning.

GardaĆ are satisfied that there was nothing suspicious about the man’s death and that he may have succumbed to hypothermia.

GardaĆ from Ennistymon are working with the Polish Embassy in an effort to locate and inform the man’s next of kin. It’s understood he has no family in Ireland.
