Emergency services deal with building fire in Ennis

Emergency services responded to reports of a fire at a property in Ennis town centre this evening.

The alarm was raised shortly before 7.00pm by a member of the public who reported seeing smoke coming from a derelict building off Harmony Row in the town.

Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Ennis station responded to the incident along with National Ambulance Service paramedics and Gardaí. Fire crews from Shannon station were also mobilised to the incident.

Firefighters located a small fire and on ground floor and quickly dealt with it. With paramedics standing by outside, fire crews conducted a full search of the building but no one was found inside. When this was confirmed, ambulance paramedics and fire crews from Shannon were stood down.

Gardaí are investigating the circumstances of the fire.

The building was extensively damaged in a previous fire in April 2025 and which was thought at the time to have been malicious.

It’s understood the site where the building is located has been earmarked for a significant commercial development and the former residence is expected to be demolished to facilitate this.
