Gardaí renew appeal for information on missing man

Gardaí have renewed their appeal for information about a man missing in Co Clare for three weeks.

30-year-old John Ryan, originally from Faranaderry, Templemore Co Tipperary been living in Bunratty Co Clare and previously worked with a company at Shannon Airport.

Mr Ryan, who was also a student at Limerick I.T., was last seen driving a green Volkswagen Golf  in the Liscannor are of Co. Clare on the evening of June 7th.

The alarm was raised the following day when his car and a bag containing personal belongings were found near Hags Head on the southern end of the cliffs.

Irish Coast Guard volunteers from Doolin, Kilkee and Killaloe along with the Garda Water Unit and the Shannon based search and rescue helicopter have been searching the Clare coast for almost a fortnight however to date there has been no sign of the missing man.

Mr Ryan is described as 5”10, slim build, short brown hair and has green eyes. He was wearing a light grey cardigan, black t-shirt, blue jeans and white runners.

The body of a man was recovered from the sea at the Cliffs of Moher last Monday

The alarm was raised after the man was seen falling from the cliffs just south of the main viewing platform. It’s understood that two tourists witnessed the tragedy.

The body of the man, from north Dublin, was recovered from the sea by the Doolin unit of the Coast Guard.

Two other men have been missing off the Clare coast since earlier in the year.

A 34-year-old Polish man, who had been living in Killaloe, is believed to have fallen to his death close to the lighthouse at Loop Head in January. With no sign of the man, the search for officially called off after four weeks.

In April, a man in his 30’s is believed to have fallen to his death from the Cliffs of Moher in Co Clare however his body has not been recovered.
