Kilrush and Lough Derg lifeboats respond to calls

The Kilrush and Lough Derg lifeboats have responded to incidents to separate incidents this afternoon.

The Kilrush based RNLI crew was alerted at around 12.30pm after a yacht was reported to have broken it’s moorings on the opposite side of the Shannon Estuary.

The lifeboat raced to the scene at Tarbert, Co Kerry and found the 32ft yacht had run aground south of the pier.

The vessel was towed off the rocks and back to the pier at Tarbert. There was no one on board the vessel at the time.

Meanwhile, the Lough Derg RNLI lifeboat was also called into action a short time later.

The Dromineer based was mobilised at around after a 36ft cruiser, with tow people on board, ran aground on Sunk Island behind Illaunmor.

The lifeboat crew took the vessel on tow to deeper water and checked to ensure the hull hadn’t been breached.

After being given the all-clear the boat continued on its way while those on board were unharmed.
