M18 northbound lanes cleared after truck incident

An incident on the M18 involving an articulated lorry has been cleared.

The single-vehicle collision occurred in the northbound carriageway at Killoo at around 6.30pm.

The cab of articulated lorry appeared to have jack-knife and collided with crash barrier blocking the lane 1. Another truck driver, believed to have been travelling with the first, stopped to lend assistance. At least to other motorists pulled up to assist also.

With traffic reduced to one lane, a tailback of vehicles resulted causing delays.

About 45 minutes after the incident occurred, emergency services were mobilised to the scene.

Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Ennis and Shannon stations attended the incident.

The truck was able to drive off the motorway to the safety of a local garage forecourt while fire crews made the scene safe.

The carriageway was full reopened shortly before 8.00pm. No one was injured in the incident.
