Motorcyclist injured in North Clare crash

Fire service personnel at the scene this afternoon.

A man had a lucky escape today after his motorcycle crashed over a wall into a field while was he thrown onto a busy road following a collision in North Clare.

Two units of the fire brigade and an ambulance from Ennistymon responded to the call along with an advanced paramedic rapid response vehicle (RRV) from Ennis.

The collision happened shortly before 1.00pm at a junction on the R478 Lahinch to Doolin road just a few hundred metres from the visitor centre at the Cliffs of Moher.

The motorcyclist was knocked from his bike in the collision that also involved a people carrier. The man’s motorcycle crashed over a wall into a field while he was left lying injured on the road.

There were a number of people in the people carrier however they all escaped injury. The injured man had been travelling with a group of motorcyclists at the time.

The Shannon based Irish Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 115, was tasked to airlift the casualty to hospital however after being assessed at the scene it was decided the man could travel by road ambulance.

The helicopter was stood down and the man was taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment. The man’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The road was cleared and reopened about 90 minutes after the collision occurred.
