The search for two swimmers feared missing in a lake in east Clare has been called off after they were found safe and well.
The pair had been swimming at a local authority reservoir near Kilmurry shortly after 2.00pm when the alarm was raised.
It’s understood that friends of the swimmers had reported losing sight of them and hadn’t seen them for about 45 minutes.
Two units of the fire brigade from Shannon were mobilised to the incident while the Irish Coast Guard search and rescue helicopter reached the scene within minutes of leaving its Shannon based.
Gardaí and ambulance paramedics were already at the scene and located the swimmers on a roadway.
It’s understood the pair exited the lake at a different location and were walking back to where they had entered the water when they were found.
Once it was confirmed that both swimmers did not require medical attention, all emergency services were stood down.
The Killaloe unit of the Irish Coast Guard was also sent to the incident but were stood down en route.
