Traffic was brought to a standstill on the M18 for a time this morning following a collision near Latoon.
The two-car crash occurred at around 7.50am in the southbound overtaking lane between junctions 12 and 11 at Manus Lower.
Traffic was backed up for several kilometres along the motorway while traffic that had been diverted via the R458 Clarecastle to Latoon route also faced hold-ups.
Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Ennis and Shannon stations responded to the incident along ambulance paramedics and Gardaí.
Fire crews implement emergency traffic management procedures while paramedics assessed the occupants of the vehicles and Gardaí set about trying to establish how the incident occurred.
One lane was later reopened and traffic was allowed proceed slowly past the scene.
The crashed vehicles were removed from the scene shortly before 9.00am while the motorway was fully reopened soon afterwards.
Traffic Infrastructure Ireland (TII) motorway maintenance personnel also attended the incident to ensure that no damage had been caused to the road or barriers.
No one was injured in the incident.
