Tourist airlifted to hospital after falling ill

An elderly man was airlifted to hospital on Friday afternoon after falling ill while visiting the Cliffs of Moher.

The tourist in his 70’s was reported to have suffered a suspected heart attack and was initially treated by staff at the Cliffs of Moher visitor centre while the ambulance service was alerted.

An ambulance and rapid response advanced paramedic unit responded to the the call. After being assessed at the scene by ambulance paramedics, the man was transported by road towards University Hospital Limerick (UHL).

 

The Emergency Aeromedical Service (EAS) air ambulance was requested to meet the ambulance en route and a rendezvous point in Inagh was agreed where the patient was handed into the care of the helicopter crew.

The man was airlifted to UHL for further treatment.
