Two people have been hospitalised following a road traffic collision on the outskirts of Ennis this evening.
The incident occurred at around 5.45pm on the N85 Western Relief Road in the westbound lanes between the Skehanagh and Clare Abbey roundabouts.
The two car collision left the hard shoulder and lane 1 blocked while a lengthy backlog of traffic formed behind the scene. Emergency services were able to filtered traffic safely past the scene via lane 2. A passing motorist also stopped to assist at the scene.
Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Ennis station responded to the incident along with National Ambulance Service paramedics and GardaÃ.
The passenger and driver from one car were removed to hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not believed to be serious. The driver of the second vehicle did not require hospitalisation.
The road was reopened at around 7.15pm.
