Woman recovering after falling on rocky shore

A woman is recovering in hospital after an Irish Coast Guard team was called to recover her from rocks where she had fallen and sustained a head injury.

The woman in her 50’s had been walking along the shoreline at Clahane near Liscannor in Co Clare when she slipped on the rocks at around 4.15pm.

The alarm was raised by a passerby who called the ambulance service.

The caller reported that the woman had sustained a head injury and was unconscious and that she was located on rocks several hundred metres from the road.

Concerned about accessibility issues, the Irish Coast Guard was requested to assist.

The Doolin unit of the volunteer service was called to assist paramedics recover the patient and take her across the rocks to the ambulance.

An ambulance and a rapid response vehicle with an advanced paramedic were sent to the scene. The woman regained consciousness and after being assed by paramedics it was decided the helicopter was no longer required and that the patient could be transported by road.

The helicopter was stood down shortly before it reached the scene and the woman was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick.
