A woman has been airlifted to hospital after being rescued from the sea in Co Clare this afternoon.
The woman in her 30’s is understood to have gotten into difficulty while swimming near Querrin in the west of the county.
The alarm was raised at around 2.15pm when the Kilkee unit of the Irish Coast Guard was alerted and quickly responded to the scene.
The Shannon based search and rescue helicopter was also tasked to the incident.
On arrival, rescuers found that the woman had been pulled from the water and helped ashore by a family member.
Coast Guard first responders treated the woman while other team members secured a landing site for the helicopter.
The woman was airlifted from the scene to University Hospital Limerick for treatment. Her condition is not believed to be serious but she is thought to be suffering from shock.
